The warning, from West Yorkshire Police in Leeds Outer East, comes after a woman passed a broken down car in Wakefield Road, Garforth, and offered to help yesterday morning.

A man stood with the car claimed to be out of petrol and said he urgently needed to get to Glasgow.

He offered the woman an amount of gold jewellery if she would withdraw £500 from a cash machine and give it to him, but she declined.

There were two Asian males involved, one aged around 20 and one believed to be in his 50s.

A police spokesperson said: “If anyone has been a victim of this or can add any further information please telephone 101.”
