Police warning after spate of burglaries

Selby police are appealing for information and warning residents to be on their guard following a spate of garage burglaries.

The latest incidents happened in Bassett Close in Brayton on Tuesday between 1am and 6am when two householders awoke to find their garage doors partially open despite locking them the previous night. There was no signed of them being forced open and officers believe the suspects may have picked the locks.

Although nothing had been stolen, police are concerned that the suspects may strike again.

PC Dave White of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We’ve had a number of reports of garages being broken into recently in the Selby area including the Sherburn-in-Elmet and Thorpe Willoughby areas as well as these latest two. We’re urging residents to secure their property as much as they can. Extra door bolts and locks can be useful in preventing entry into your premises.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
