Political respite: Crocus bulbs to light up 'Secret garden' set for colourful springtime

AS WELL as providing a setting for the announcement of an historic coalition Government, it has provided a quiet oasis for Prime Ministers over the years from the intense strain of governing the country. But Downing Street's garden will now feature an aspect of Yorkshire that might help David Cameron find solace from the House of Commons.Harrogate and Knaresborugh MP Andrew Jones will deliver 2,000 crocus bulbs to Number 10 on Tuesday.

He will be joined by Caroline Bayliss from Harrogate in Bloom to hand over the bulbs ready for spring flowering.

Mr Jones said: "It is great that we can share some of the colour and beauty of Harrogate at the highest possible level, and we are delighted that a little piece of God's Own County will be in Downing Street's garden."

The previous Prime Minister Gordon Brown's wife, Sarah, claimed the garden was "one of the secret pleasures of life at Number 10".
