Voltalia UK is proposing to prepare and submit a planning application to Scarborough Borough Council for the solar farm at land near Eastgate Farm off Stoney Haggs Road in Seamer.

The main element of the proposal is the installation of a “ground-mounted solar park” which will generate sufficient electricity annually to provide for the needs of up to 6,100 homes, and offset 2,900 tonnes of C02.

Kelly Clutterbuck, Head of Development UK at Voltalia said: “Our proposals for Eastgate Farm, would provide enough clean energy for over 6,000 family homes. It will also support Scarborough Borough Council in meeting the challenges it set itself when it declared a climate emergency in 2019, in addition to helping the council meet local and national climate change targets.

“We believe it’s crucial that the local community is involved in the planning process. We’re very keen to hear from local residents and businesses before we submit our planning application later this year, and hope that they are able to attend our upcoming webinar or leave feedback via our project website www.eastgatesolarfarm.com.”

The company hopes to get planning permission by next spring, with a view to the solar farm being constructed by sometime in 2022.

An online public consultation is being held tomorrow (Thursday) between 5pm and 7pm for people to have their say on the proposals.
