Bishop’s wife releases second song

The wife of the Dean of Wakefield has released a second protest song as part of a campaign to stop the Government introducing VAT on listed buildings alterations.

Pamela Greener’s second VAT Ditty, featuring the George Osborne sextet, was unveiled at a national charities tax summit in London yesterday.

Wakefield Cathedral – which has just started a £3m restoration programme – faces the prospect of having to raise another £200,000 in order to pay the VAT.

She was invited to speak about the impact the tax changes – announced in last month’s Budget – will have on churches and charities.

Since the first Vat Ditty was shown on You Tube at the end of March, thousands of people have pledged their support to the campaign and the song has had more than 17,000 hits.
