The UK Independence Party is due to announce its final regional lists on October 7, forcing its leadership to take a decision quickly over whether to allow Mr Bloom to stand.

Ukip announced earlier this year its six candidates for Yorkshire and gave members the chance to vote on the order they will appear on the list.

The voting system used in European elections means the higher the candidate is on a party’s list the more likely they are to secure a seat. Voting closed on Friday with Mr Bloom, as a sitting MEP and popular party figure, expected to emerge top of the Yorkshire list.

Mr Bloom had the party whip withdrawn last Friday after he joked to a room of women activists that they were “sluts”.

A Ukip spokeswoman said Mr Bloom’s “involvement in future elections” would be discussed by the party’s national executive committee.
