Bus users facing round of fare rises

BUS users in West and North Yorkshire are facing a round of New Year fare rises.

Arriva Yorkshire said the price of a number of its tickets in the two counties would be going up from January 13.

The increases are the first on its services since the start of this year. Under the new structure, the firm’s current £1.40, £1.80, £2.50, £2.80 and £3 tickets will rise by either 5p or 10p.

Arriva Yorkshire managing director Nigel Featham said: “We are committed to providing value-for-money fares and high service standards. Due to current economic pressures and in order to maintain our current service levels we need to increase a number of fares this January.”

The price of the firm’s weekly and four-weekly Yorkshire multi-journey tickets has been frozen.

Rail passengers will also be facing extra strain on their wallets at the start of 2013.

Train chiefs said earlier this month that fares would be going up by an average of 3.9 per cent in the New Year.
