Cameron to look at homes funding

The Prime Minister has pledged to look into the case of a stalled housing regeneration scheme in East Yorkshire which has been thrown into doubt after its funding was blocked at the 11th hour.

David Cameron told the House of Commons yesterday he would personally look into the Keepmoat regeneration scheme in Hull which was awarded £8m last year from the Regional Growth Fund but has yet to receive a penny.

It emerged this week that Housing Minister Grant Shapps blocked the scheme’s funding at the 11th hour because he does not want to see houses demolished.

Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions, Hull Labour MP Alan Johnson told Mr Cameron the scheme “means rescuing people from some of the poorest housing conditions in the country.”

The Prime Minister defended the regional fund, which has come under sustained criticism over the speed at which money is being distributed, but added: “I will certainly look at this specific project, and write to (Mr Johnson) shortly.”
