Candidate to succeed William Hague chosen by Tories
Businessman Rishi Sunak has been selected to stand in the Conservatives’ safest seat when William Hague leaves the Commons at the General Election.
Mr Sunak, who co-founded a £1 billion global investment business, will be the Tory candidate in Richmond, North Yorkshire, next May.
Leader of the House of Commons Mr Hague has represented the constituency since 1989 and held it in 2010 with a majority of 23,336.
He announced his decision to stand down from Parliament at the time of July’s reshuffle, which also saw him quit his role as foreign secretary.
