Charity throws line to entrepreneurs

A SAILING charity that has helped hundreds of unemployed young people into education, work and training has launched an innovative programme aimed at equipping them with the skills to become entrepreneurs.

The Hull-based CatZero charity yesterday announced a new venture for 16 to 24-year-olds in East Yorkshire that is being backed by three major local employers.

The first CatZero Enterprise Programme will begin later this month thanks to £50,000 of investment from city-based engineering specialists the Spencer Group and JobCentre Plus.

Recruits will face a tough 24-hour selection process where they will have to display their resilience and resourcefulness before beginning a 10-week course that aims to give them all the skills needed to start up their own business.

The course will include a 48-hour sailing element.

Subject to match-funding, further programmes will be partly financed by £25,000 donations from the Sewell Group and the Horncastle Group.
