The event in London is the latest stage of a renewed effort to persuade Labour voters to back staying in the European Union which was launched yesterday with speeches from Leeds Central MP Hilary Benn, the Shadow Foreign Secretary, and former prime minister Gordon Brown.

With Conservatives split on the issue and Remain confident of victory in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, Labour votes in England have become the focus for the last nine days of campaigning.

Mr Corbyn will say: “Today sees my shadow cabinet and the trade union movement join together, in the interests of the people of this country, to make Labour’s case to remain in the European Union and bring reform to strengthen workers’ rights .

“That’s why today I am issuing a call to the whole Labour movement, to persuade people to back Remain to protect jobs and rights at work.

“We have just nine days to go to convince Labour supporters to vote Remain.”
