CCTV will also be upgraded in both town centres, at a cost of almost £140,000, and around £180,000 will be spent on improvements to bus services in the area.

The majority of the money will fund new paths and green spaces. Around £350,000 will be spent on better paths and cycle routes in Shipley, while more than half a million pounds will finance new parks, green spaces and community gardens in both towns.

Each town will also receive £750k from the government's Towns Fund scheme to "drive long-term economic growth" and Bradford Council, divvying up the money, said as many people as possible should be able to share the benefits.

The money will also be spent in parks like Northcliffe in Shipley, and Cliffe Castle and Devonshire in Keighley - and around £85k each will be given to Worth Valley Railway in Keighley, and Victoria Hall in Saltaire.

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: "I’d like to thank our officers for putting together such an excellent set of shovel-ready projects in a very short amount of time.

"We’re delighted to receive this grant which will deliver significant improvements to key heritage assets in Shipley and Keighley as well as our parks and green spaces."
