Election to be held after resignation

AN ELECTION will be held next month at a district council following the resignation of former council leader Coun Neville Huxtable.

Earlier this year the reins of Hambleton District Council changed hands with Coun Mark Robson installed as new leader.

He took over from Coun Neville Huxtable who stood down after three years for personal reasons.

Now a by-election is to be held in Coun Huxtable’s former ward of Topcliffe next month.

A spokeswoman for Hambleton District Council said yesterday: “Hambleton District Council is holding a by-election next month – to fill the vacancy in its Topcliffe ward.

“The election – prompted by the resignation of Councillor Neville Huxtable - will be held on December 12.”

Following Coun Robson’s election as leader he said: “Neville has brought this council through a difficult period.”
