Environmental objection to energy plan

The Environment Agency is objecting to plans for a renewable energy plant which could transform economic fortunes on the Humber.

Plans for the £210m Green Port Hull development, a joint project between Associated British Ports and German manufacturer Siemens, are being recommended for conditional approval, ahead of a meeting at Hull Council on May 9. However the EA is concerned there are not enough “managed realignment” sites on the Humber, where flood defences are set back further inland, to compensate for loss of inter-tidal habitat.

Natural England is also objecting. The council hopes to have the matters resolved by May 9.
