Firm given ‘assurances’ on HS2 route

MANAGERS at a metal forgings company have received “strong assurances” that one of their sites would not be affected by the HS2 rail project, despite concerns it lies on the route.

Firth Rixson said it had received several questions about its Meadowhall plant in Sheffield, but chief financial officer Peter Bland said the international firm was not concerned.

He added: “We support the high-speed rail project and believe it will have important benefits for Sheffield, but we are not in favour of the proposed route.

“Fortunately, this is just the beginning of a long planning and consultation process and alternative routes will be identified and examined as part of that process.

“Firth Rixson has already received strong assurances from Sheffield Council and from the highest levels within Government that a solution will be found that ensures the Meadowhall site will not be adversely impacted in any way.

“Our customers will continue to receive the highest levels of service, and we are confident the site will continue to benefit from significant ongoing investments in its growth and development.”
