Lib Dems left humiliated by poll ‘kicking’

Have your say

Liberal Democrats yesterday admitted they faced a fight to regain their reputation after the party was humiliated in the Barnsley Central by-election.

Limping in an embarrassing sixth place behind comfortable winners Labour, UKIP, the Tories, the BNP and an unemployed ex-miner who stood as an independent, candidate Dominic Carman lost his deposit.

Mr Carman admitted the party had been “given a kicking by the people of Barnsley”.

Winner Dan Jarvis said it was a “fantastic victory” for Labour.
