HS2 stations locations ‘not set in stone’

The location of Yorkshire’s high speed rail stations is still up for grabs, Transport Minister Baroness Kramer confirmed today.

The Lib Dem Peer stressed Ministers remain open to arguments over whether HS2 should stop at Meadowhall or Sheffield city centre and would listen to concerns about passengers having to transfer between the existing Leeds station and the proposed HS2 terminus on land opposite ASDA House.

“All of this is up for debate. We’ve got a good amount of time to work through these issues on this second phase of HS2 so we really want to spend a lot of time looking at the individual proposals,” she said.

“We really are open to serious discussion to find the best options.

“The underpinning rationale for HS2 doesn’t change which is to provide that connectivity which is the basis for economic development.

“But I think we are recognising more and more we need to make sure what we do is integrated with growth plans for the area.”

Baroness Kramer is on a two day visit to Yorkshire looking at the proposed route for HS2 through the region.
