‘Humbled’ head tells of her shock and pride

A LEEDS headteacher who has received an OBE for her services to education has told of her shock and pride at receiving the honour.

Allison Chin, who has led Swinnow Primary for almost 20 years said being chosen was recognition of the hard work of children, parents, staff and governors.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out. I feel humbled and honoured and I have been in a daze ever since I found out.

“This is a great honour for the school and the community of Swinnow.

“It is recognition of the achievements of our children, the support of their parents and the hard work and dedication of all the staff and governors who I have worked with in the last 19 years.”

The Leeds primary school also runs a children’s centre and a pupil support unit for children and families in the Pudsey and Bramley areas.

In its last two Ofsted inspections it was given outstanding ratings – the highest a school can achieve.

Mrs Chin, who is married and has three daughters, has lived in Leeds since 1984.
