Inquest into Remain campaign gets underway

Remain supporters were this morning beginning the inquest into their campaign as early referendum results gave Leave a significant lead.

Concerns were being expressed that Remain had attempted to fight a General Election-style campaign focusing on wards and constituencies where they felt they could win.

In contrast, Leave had better understood that in a referendum every vote matters making it worth campaigning in areas where there is a clear majority support for Remain.

Questions were also being raised over the decisions taken over who was eligible to vote in the election, particularly the decision not to allow 16 and 17-year-olds a say, in contrast to the Scottish independence referendum.

While Leave had established a clear lead in early results, Remain supporters were hopeful that significant wins in major cities and support from Scotland and Northern Ireland could still win the day.
