Meeting held over protest in city centre

PROTESTERS occupying the site of a much-delayed shopping centre in Bradford city centre have held a meeting with council chiefs.

The Occupy Westfield protest was set to end at the weekend but those involved have decided to continue for an extra seven days.

A meeting between Coun David Green, the leader of Bradford Council and the Occupy Westfield protesters took place yesterday and afterwards Coun Green said: “I think it was a good meeting. We were able to listen to the concerns expressed.”

Earlier, Alias Yousaf, a solicitor representing the protesters, said they continued to receive a lot of support from the public.

Campaigners say they are frustrated by what they see as the lack of progress on the site of the proposed Westfield shopping centre – but Westfield has said it remains committed to the project.
