Migrant camps in France have nightclubs claims Yorkshire MEP

Mike Hookem told activists that he had visited Calais to see the crisis first-hand and found very few genuine refugees.

The Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire MEP also reiterated Nigel Farage’s warnings that Islamic State was using the crisis to get its jihadis into Europe.

Mr Hookem told the conference that during his visit to the camps he had been threatened with a gun, tear-gassed in a riot and met people traffickers.

He insisted that most of the migrants were Eritreans, Somalis, Sudanese, Pakistanis and Nigerians rather than Syrians.

“There were also few families, children or even women,” he said.

“What I did see were thousands of young men aged between 20-35, roaming the streets, sitting in makeshift camps that boast shops, churches, mosques and nightclubs, waiting for their chance to get to Britain.”
