Minister praises title-race enthusiam

THE Yorkshire city in the running for UK City of Culture received its latest VIP visitor, 72 hours before a final pitch to judges.

Culture Minister Ed Vaizey met members of Hull’s bid team during a whistle-stop tour, which took in the arts quarter on Humber Street, Hull Truck Theatre and the Old Town.

Mr Vaizey said: “Hull is a great city with historic legacy – Wilberforce House for example is wonderfully preserved. It is also
a modern city with a large ports complex, digital industry and
arts.

“Everyone here is incredibly enthusiastic about the city and I hope that taking part in the City of Culture process has helped boost that further. I am privileged to have been immersed in the city today.”

The team heads to Derry-Londonderry on Thursday to make their presentation.

A final decision is due on November 20.

The other cities in the running for the honour are Dundee, Leicester and Swansea Bay.
