Minister promotes enterprise zone

A GOVERNMENT Minister says new enterprise zones will provide much-needed “engines for growth”, attracting thousands of new jobs.

Cities Minister Greg Clark visited Alexandra Dock in Hull yesterday, the site earmarked by Siemens for a new wind turbine factory and part of a 375-hectare site spanning both sides of the river, which is to become the Humber Enterprise Zone.

Mr Clark said: “It shows what can be done when the public and private sector come together to remove the barriers to growth and create the conditions in which enterprise will flourish.

“Never has there been a more important time to unleash the potential of our most important cities as engines for growth across the country.”

Companies setting up in the zone, which will focus on the construction of offshore wind turbines, will enjoy business rate discounts, superfast broadband, tax incentives and fast-track planning. Recruitment will start next week for a board to run the HEZ.
