Petrol prices are the 11th highest in Europe, with current prices just 3p off the record high recorded in May.
In Yorkshire, the average price of a litre of petrol has risen in the last year from £1.17 to £1.33, while diesel has risen from £1.20 to £1.38.
Thirsk and Malton MP Anne McIntosh, chairman of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs select committee, wants MPs to explain why diesel pump prices are so high given pre-duty prices are the second lowest in Europe.
