Partnership in £3.2bn growth plan

A PLAN to add £3.2bn to the Greater Lincolnshire economy has been handed over to Ministers in the hope of winning Government cash to support growth.

The Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) believes its proposals could help create 13,000 new jobs, support the building of 100,000 new homes and support 22,000 businesses to grow.

All 39 LEPs – partnerships bringing local councils and business together – across the country are competing for a share of a £2bn Government pot designed to kickstart growth.

Ursula Lidbetter, chairwoman of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP, said: “We have many positive things to shout about: Greater Lincolnshire is home to the biggest Siemens plant in the UK as well as 40,000 small businesses, it offers a wealth of supply chain opportunities and it has attracted major investments.

“There are things that hold us back, however. Transport bottlenecks, underdeveloped economic infrastructure, a skills mismatch and a risk of flooding are all problems which we need to solve.”

The Greater Lincolnshire LEP includes North and North-East Lincolnshire which have seen a string of positive announcements in recent weeks. The Humber is to be covered by a ‘city deal’ giving the area a bigger say over Government spending and planning permission has been granted for a new marine energy park.
