Pig race fundraiser for Yorkshire Tory group goes ahead after message saying it had been cancelled proves to be hogwash
The Dewsbury County Conservative Association, had planned a pig race fundraising rvening next month but Facebook users today received a message claiming the event had been cancelled.
The group later went on Twitter to reassure people that the “exciting and unpredictable evening” would go ahead as planned.

Hide AdThe “premature” cancellation of the event came after allegations made in a new book by the billionaire businessman and former Conservative Party treasurer Lord Ashcroft that Mr Cameron took part in a student initiation ritual which involved him inserting “a private part of his anatomy” in the mouth of a dead pig.
But the Dewsbury Tories replied to the cancellation rumours by tweeting: “The event is still going ahead - someone was a bit premature with Facebook.”
A message about the event, posted on the group’s website on September 8, says: “We will be holding a pig race evening. This promises to be an exciting and unpredictable evening.”
Racegoers will be provided with pulled pork sandwiches as part of the £7.50 entry fee.
