The “premature” cancellation of the event came after allegations made in a new book by the billionaire businessman and former Conservative Party treasurer Lord Ashcroft that Mr Cameron took part in a student initiation ritual which involved him inserting “a private part of his anatomy” in the mouth of a dead pig.

But the Dewsbury Tories replied to the cancellation rumours by tweeting: “The event is still going ahead - someone was a bit premature with Facebook.”

A message about the event, posted on the group’s website on September 8, says: “We will be holding a pig race evening. This promises to be an exciting and unpredictable evening.”

Racegoers will be provided with pulled pork sandwiches as part of the £7.50 entry fee.
