PM summons Olympic spirit for festive card

TRADITIONALLY Christmas cards depict snowy scenes from winter.

However David Cameron and his wife Samantha have chosen an image from the nation’s incredible summer of sport for their annual card this year.

The couple are seen waving to schoolchildren from the steps of Number 10 as they welcome the Olympic Torch to Downing Street on the eve of the Games.

It is being carried by war hero Kate Nesbitt, whose treatment of wounded troops while under fire won her the first Military Cross to be awarded to a woman in the Royal Navy.

Last year the Prime Minister chose an image from a Royal Wedding street party.

The other main party leaders have also stuck to familiar themes as their card designs were revealed yesterday.

Recipients of festive wishes from Ed Miliband will be treated to a relaxed family portrait of the Labour leader with his wife Justine and their two sons Daniel and Samuel at home in north London.

Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has kept to his tradition of sending out Christmas cards that have been designed by children.

Rather than his own three sons’ artistic efforts this year, however, the Sheffield Hallam MP has picked a painting by a young patient at Sheffield Children’s Hospital for the image on his festive greetings.
