'˜Referendum result is in your hands' Khan to tell Labour supporters

Mr Khan will front a Labour event telling party supporters they will dictate the result of the EU referendum on June 23.

He will be joined by leading Labour figures including Hull West and Hessle MP Alan Johnson, who chairs the Labour In for Britain campaign and Normanton MP Yvette Cooper but not leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Mr Khan last week appeared with David Cameron to rally support for Remain in contrast to Mr Corbyn who has ruled out sharing a platform with the Prime Minister.

Labour Remain supporters hope Mr Khan’s momentum from his recent election victory in London will help rally party members to their cause.

Mr Khan will say: “We are here today because with just two weeks to go we want to send a crystal-clear message: it is Labour voters and supporters who will decide the outcome of this referendum.

“We in the Labour Party now have a monumental and historic responsibility on our shoulders - to keep Britain in the European Union.

“Every day we see another example of why David Cameron and the Tories simply cannot win this referendum as they lose credibility with the public. They are simply too riven by division. It now falls to us, and it’s time for us to step up.”

Mr Corbyn, who has previously expressed Eurosceptic views, has been accused of only campaigning half-heartedly for a Remain vote.
