Seaside towns to compete for cash boost

SEASIDE towns in Yorkshire are being invited to apply for the second round of cash available through the Coastal Communities Fund.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles is today announcing a new pot of £27.2m to boost economic development, £3.5m more than was available last year.

Scarborough Council was awarded £2.6m last year, the largest payout among 26 successful applications in England.

Announcing the new funding, Mr Pickles said: “For too long seaside towns, large and small, were overlooked and this fund gives them a lifeline to grab hold of to create skilled workers and year-round jobs that will build stronger communities and stronger local economies.

“The fund was a huge success last year and I want to see as many exceptional projects as possible put forward in year two.”
