Shadow Cabinet members face inquiry over funding

FOUR members of Labour’s Shadow Cabinet are to face a parliamentary inquiry for seeking to amend legislation in favour of unions.

Ed Balls, shadow Chancellor, his wife Yvette Cooper, shadow home secretary, Andy Burnham, shadow health secretary and Liam Byrne, the shadow work and pensions secretary, are accused of failing to register a potential conflict of interest due to the funding they receive from unions. Earlier this month Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves was forced to deny similar accusations against her.

A Labour spokesman said: “The Register of Members’ Financial Interests is clear that donations to constituency parties which are not linked to a Member’s candidacy or membership of the House do not have to be registered on the Register of Members’ Financial Interests.”
