Sketch: 'David and I' the new romantic thriller out now

During his remarkable hour long press conference in the sumptous and historically fitting Lorcano Suite in the Foreign Office just off Whitehall, President Obama said ‘David and I’ around 25,000 times.

Yet for every utterance of “David and I have shared an extraordinary partnership,” Mr Cameron would pay back the compliment with “I’m honoured to have Barack as a friend” and “Barack has a very good heart”.

It is a deep friendship it seems and Obama provided the colour on what the pair get up to in their spare time. They were the kind of humanising anecdotes that Mr Cameron just cannot deliver without sounding like he has made them up.

They have traded English and American beers, watched basketball together and partnered up playing ping-pong. Their opponents were a couple of toddlers.

“They whooped us!” Obama chuckled, like a charismatic film-star.

And like a pair of regular blokes, it also emerged that Michelle and Samatha, who are described as their “better halves” are also great friends.

They presented a vision of almost civilian domesticity, of double dates spent with a take-away and a box-set of the West Wing, of nights out together as a fabulous four, just with the headache of where to park Air Force One.

Just incase we hadn’t got the message that David and I: The Movie is soon to go into production, the pair put their arms around each other and headed out of the room. But while Obama was walking off into the sunset...poor Cameron was contemplating that he has four more very. long. years. to go.
