Striking Tesco drivers call on Miliband for support

STRIKING Tesco lorry drivers called on Opposition leader and Doncaster MP Ed Miliband to support them yesterday after they staged a protest outside the supermarket giant’s Westminster branch.

Officials from the union Unite said the group of drivers had travelled to the capital from Doncaster, where their jobs are under threat after Tesco transferred their depot to national haulage contractor Eddie Stobart.

Almost 200 drivers have been informed by the company that they are facing redundancy but have been told they can take alternative jobs with the firm elsewhere.

But last night Unite said those posts were on worse terms and conditions and said their members would take further action to safeguard jobs.
