Tories’ grip is strengthened

The Conservatives strengthened their grip on East Riding Council, with the party claiming a further eight seats.

The Tories now totally dominate the authority, holding 53 seats. Their one time rivals the Lib Dems lost ten and have just three left.

Labour doubled the number of seats it holds, winning three, with one seat taken by Josh Newlove, who is still a teenager.

The 19-year-old said he was “absolutely delighted, and humbled,” as Labour went from fourth place to record a victory in Tranby.

Scarborough Council remained in no overall control as the Tories made just one gain, holding 25 of the 50 seats. The Liberal Democrats lost two and the Greens lost one as Labour made progress, moving from two seats to six.
