Tributes to ‘gentleman’ politician

POLITICIANS have paid tribute to long-serving councillor Stanley King, a former Lord Mayor of Bradford, who has died aged 80.

Mr King first became a Conservative councillor in 1970 and represented the Heaton ward until his retirement in 2008.

He was twice chairman of Metro, the passenger transport authority.

Friends and colleagues described him as a dedicated Bradfordian.

Council leader David Green said Mr King was always “polite and gentlemanly” and passionate about transport.

Keighley Tory MP Kris Hopkins said he would be remembered as a man of decency, kindness and integrity.
