UKIP leader to attend dinner

UKIP leader Nigel Farage will be in Hull next week hoping to boost his party’s chances as it prepares to field a record nine candidates in the city’s May local elections.

Farage will attend a St George’s Day celebration dinner at the Mercure Hotel, Ferensway, on April 28, organised by Yorkshire UKIP members, along with local MEP Godfrey Bloom and media personality Jon Gaunt. It comes after a poll suggested UKIP had replaced the Liberal Democrats as the third party in British politics.

Branch secretary Ken Hordon said: “We had this organised since before Christmas. The fact we are improving the polls – which we have always have said would happen in the end – won’t do us any harm.” Tickets are still available.
