Unions join forces for
legal firm

Two leading trade unions have launched a new legal firm offering services to almost a million workers based in Sheffield.

The GMB, which has 620,000 members in private firms and the public sector, and the Communication Workers Union, which represents 200,000 mainly postal and BT workers, said Unionline would be the first of its kind after being granted a licence.

CWU general secretary Billy Hayes said: “Unionline is a unique opportunity for both the CWU and the GMB to compete in a previously highly-regulated industry. We want to make sure our members get the very best legal advice and by creating and operating our own legal services we can ensure that.”
