Video: 12 job seekers for every vacancy in urban Yorkshire
Hull was among the worst urban areas in the country for the number of unemployed compared with jobs available, an IPPR North analysis said ahead of the announcement of national unemployment figures tomorrow.
There are, on average, 12 job seekers for every vacancy in Middlesbrough, 10 in Hull and North-East Lincolnshire, and eight in Bradford.

IPPR North director Ed Cox said: “More needs to be done to help the areas of the UK where people are really struggling to find work. The Government should guarantee a job for everyone who has been unemployed for more than a year paid at the minimum wage, targeted at the worst affected areas first but then rolled out everywhere.”
Bradford East MP David Ward said the figures did not tell the full story because agency workers were not taken into account.
