Video: I’m not voting for you - you look like a bleeping egg

Stella Creasy has hit back at foul-mouthed internet "trolls" by releasing a video in which she reads out some of the expletive-packed messages she has been sent

Ms Creasy admitted that her tormentors may have been provoked by the tidal wave of emails they have received over the past few months from contenders not only in the deputy leadership contest, but also the battles for leader and London mayoral candidate.

She promised that if she wins the party’s Number Two slot, she will act to stop the party “spamming” its own followers.

In the video, entitled Labour Emails - Parental Advisory Required, Ms Creasy said: “Over the last three months, a lot of Labour Party members and supporters have complained to me about the nature and number of the emails they have received from the party. So I thought I would share with you some of the emails I’ve received recently.

“Peter, from Newark, wrote to me to say ‘As I said to one of your team, I am a sucker for posh totty, but in all honesty that photo doesn’t do you justice’. Thanks, Peter.”

“Mark wrote to me to say “**** off, you look like an alien egg’. And then Mark emailed me back. He said: “I apologise, my partner stole my phone from me. I will not be voting for you, but that is nothing to do with your resemblance to an egg’.

“And Rob wrote to me to say `Please, take me off this list. Your narcissism and self-righteous moralising really grates’. Don’t know what he means by that.”

Ms Creasy concluded: “I get it - nobody wants volumes of unwanted spam. We’ve got to improve the way the Labour Party communicates with itself and the way we use new technology.”

All of the swear-words in the 90-second video were bleeped out, but Ms Creasy still sent out a message on Twitter to her mother, saying: “Sorry Mum for the language!”
