YP Letters: Blair's ambitions for new EU vote will sink without trace

I CAN only liken Tony Blair’s attempt to keep us in the EU to trying to resurrect the Titanic.

His contention that we should have a second referendum shows the extent of what he has learned from the EU: “Keep on having referendums until we get the right result; that’s only fair because, until we get the 
right result, people are only being populist and don’t understand the question!”

Amen!

AFTER months of being criticised for not telling us on what terms we would be ending our EU membership, Theresa May is now accused of making “optimistic promises”. She has, so far, indicated her priorities and promised to do her best. Nobody can possibly know what terms, if any, will finally be agreed.

“Leaving the EU but not leaving Europe” is not a meaningless phrase but a welcome reminder that “EU” does not mean “Europe”.

THE reaction to Tony Blair’s latest speech on giving the electorate a chance to change their minds over Brexit was 100 per cent predictable.

Would, however, the reaction have been similar if Remain had secured a narrow victory, and Nigel Farage was pushing for another referendum? In fact, one of the main reasons why there was a referendum was that Ukip, and others, refused to accept the result of the 1975 referendum.

IF only we were allowed a referendum on whether Tony Blair should face a war crimes tribunal because of the blood he has on his hands regarding the many thousands of innocent men, women and children he caused by contributing to the war in Iraq.

DON Wood (The Yorkshire Post, February 15) is the most recent writer to tell us that only five to six per cent of businesses trade with the EU.

May I ask him what percentage of total exports to the EU these firms contribute and what is the value of that business?
