YP Letters: Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg would be gift to the Labour Party

YOUR correspondent R Hartley is correct (The Yorkshire Post, February 16), regarding there not being an ill-fated election if Boris Johnson had been made PM instead of Theresa May.

The Conservatives would have been so far behind in the opinion polls that he would never have called one. Although Labour would be delighted if Theresa May was ousted as PM and replaced by Boris Johnson, they would be absolutely ecstatic if the Conservatives chose instead Jacob Rees-Mogg. He would hand Labour victory on a plate.

WHEN will someone get a grip of the situation?

I was prepared to give Theresa May the benefit of the doubt, but she has finally exhausted my patience with her dithering and dallying. Alas, I cannot foresee anyone else doing any better either. What our country needs is a strong leader, one who is prepared to take and make decisions. He/she must understand that you cannot please all of the people all of the time and sometimes difficult decisions must be taken, in the interests of the all of us in the UK, not just the politicians.

ACROSS social media, the Brexit debate descends towards the gutter, especially from the young. The print media sets a more acceptable tone from more mature readers, but can occasionally get hostile.

I believe Remainers’ vile abuse and rage is unprecedented in modern politics and can be summed up as follows: Left-wing Remainers are determined to keep the UK in the EU so they may continue life under an unelected liberal/socialist permanent bureaucracy – the EU Commission that supersedes a Conservative Government.

Right-wing Remainers are making money from the EU and simply talk out of their greedy pockets to the detriment of the UK. Leavers, like me, voted out of patriotism to set the country free.

THE reason for the “Long, arduous road to Brexit” (The Yorkshire Post, February 21) is because Theresa May has invoked Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. Article 50 was produced by EU federalist fanatics who had no intention to let anyone leave the EU. It is a trap to keep us tied to the EU, and it is doing exactly what it was intended to do.
