YP Letters: Brexit Britain: A bleak future or a brave new world ahead?

THE older generation in general voted to leave the EU, while the younger generation generally voted to remain. Knowingly or not, older people deprived the younger generation of work, study and travel opportunities which will remain open to the millions of young people born in the rest of Europe.

Older people in society depend heavily on the young, in both practical and financial ways. As money drains out of the country (as it has already begun to), and our aspirational young people seek opportunities elsewhere in the world, the future for the UK looks rather bleak.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the people involved in the voyage of the Juno space craft to Jupiter. Not withstanding all the turmoil on Earth (evidently) caused by the people of the United Kingdom voting “No” to our EU membership; it is fantastic to know that human beings can still achieve such ‘astronomical’ success, after a five-year journey into the unknown. Hopefully, this might bring a sense of reality to our survival as a species and if we sent all the politicians off on the next trip to Mars; the rest of us (with the help of a cup of tea and a piece of Victoria sponge), can manage this EU exit without all the smoke and noise of our political ‘elite’.

I HAVE no objection to David McKenna putting his own rather overheated interpretation on the recent referendum but it is a step too far when he ‘spins’ the words of Shakespeare to support his views (The Yorkshire Post, July 5).

Yes, Mr McKenna, we had made”a shameful conquest” of ourself but at last we’ve found the will to do something about it.

From: Les Arnott, Sheffield.

I WISH people would open their eyes. The short term future may be a tad messy, but provided that our Brexit negotiators are up to the job, never has this nation’s future in the medium and longer term been so bright – and this is global not merely European. We can have our cake and eat it!

VOTING to leave the EU is certainly not the answer to our ills. Why not make a start by introducing PR? As in the referendum, each vote would count equally and smaller
parties would be properly represented, reflecting the wishes of the people.
