YP Letters: Give thanks that we have our own Archbishop

From: Edward Grainger, Botany Way, Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough.
Justin Welby is the Archbishop of Canterbury.Justin Welby is the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Justin Welby is the Archbishop of Canterbury.

BILL Carmichael’s demolition job on the incumbent Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby (The Yorkshire Post, February 17) regarding the top cleric’s comments at the opening of the General Synod, however justified, merely confirms how fortunate we are in our beloved Yorkshire to have at the helm our very own Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

He leads by example and
more than makes up for
any shortcomings by the Welby-led Church of England, as catalogued by Mr Carmichael over Brexit.

From: Norman Wilkinson, Chapel Close, Flamborough.

BORN in the 1930s I have seen great advances in technology, also in attitudes and beliefs. During the 1940/50s the majority of the population was Christian but, over the years, more people are becoming atheists, plus a big increase in Islam.

Over this period the Church has made a great U-turn from being quite radical to now
being quite liberal and I am amazed that there is even a debate on same-sex marriage
in Church.

Sadly the Church seems more interested in political matters rather than matters relating to a person’s eternal future.
