WE “Remainers” who continue to fight against Brexit are frequently told to “move on”. It is asserted that “the people have spoken” and the referendum result needs to be acted upon.

Leaving aside for one moment the closeness of the vote and the deeply flawed nature of the whole process, time itself has “moved on” since last June.

Brexiteers cling in an increasingly desperate fashion to their narrow, dated win. Since then “buyer’s remorse” has set in on top of which we have the hundreds of thousands of people who voted “Out” thinking “Out” would never win and hoping just to give Cameron’s government an incidental kicking. Polls show that opinion is shifting to “Remain”.

All in all, the June 23 result is a very fragile peg on which to hang a constitutional change of historical magnitude.

Our MPs, over 400 of whom voted “Remain”, would serve us best by putting an end to this hugely distracting nonsense at the earliest opportunity.

RE the letter from Don Burslam (The Yorkshire Post, January 26) in which he refers to an unelected prime minister. Theresa May was elected as an MP by the people of her constituency – she was then voted into office as PM by her party as has always been the case.

AS the Press struggle to define the decisions of President Trump and their impact on the rest of the world, we appear to be entering a period where
future events are becoming
increasingly difficult to define.

The thought of a post-Brexit scenario with England and a fractured UK back in the EU, and using the euro, is preposterous.

From: Alan Chapman, Beck Lane, Bingley.

I WOULD like to congratulate The Yorkshire Post for its comprehensive reporting of the inauguration of President Donald J Trump. I enjoyed an inaugural speech coming from a very successful businessman, in contrast to the standard obscure jargon delivered by most politicians.

He was hard-hitting and direct, with no thought for political correctness.

Trump is moving forward to implement his policies very quickly, at urgent private sector speed and with a “get on with it” attitude. As opposed to the lethargic, gluey slow movement of all public sector staff and departments.
