YP Letters: A new fear campaign is gearing up over '˜no-deal' Brexit

THE public are to be warned every week over a ‘no-deal’ Brexit, the emphasis being on its negative aspects.

Here are the seeds of Project Fear II. The blueprint will no doubt be the map of the referendum vote in 2016. The contents of weekly bulletins will start by covering conditions in northernmost England and work southward week by week.

First will be warnings of unemployment in Newcastle, second will be of even worse conditions in Darlington and Sunderland, third will be of economic and social hardship in Hull and Liverpool and so on – down through the Midlands and Lincolnshire where Leave voters abound – until reaching the sunny pastures of England south and east of Oxford, home of Remainers.

By that time the weeks of relentless negative news – ‘fake news?’ – could have taken effect on Leave-voting areas, and Remainers calling for a new referendum will try a final heave.

IN supporting Theresa May’s Brexit in Name Only fudge as set out at Chequers, Sir Greg Knight, the MP for East Yorkshire, is breaking the Government’s promise to voters to implement the decision to leave the EU, putting his party’s interests before the country’s and letting down the thousands of people in his constituency who voted Leave. This is disgraceful and I, for one, will not be voting Conservative again so long as Sir Greg remains East Yorkshire’s MP and Mrs May the Prime Minister. They can no longer be trusted.

AS Germany was re-arming in the early 1930s, Winston Churchill advised the government of the day that it would be wise to ‘follow suit’, but this advice was rejected. Memories of the 1914-18 war were still too raw.

Thus we were in no position to curb the rise of Adolf Hitler.Now we are repeating Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement, but not from a standpoint of weakness. The EU has more to lose than ourselves, that is why they are so obdurate. Thus, let us hope that our negotiators will adopt a more robust approach.

WHY the fuss over Theresa May taking charge of Brexit negotiations? She should have done so from the outset. Only she can take the necessary decisions.
