YP Letters: North's women can challenge the status quo

Could the suffragettes be the inspiration for a new political movement in the North?

GIVEN current reminders of the achievements of suffragettes, and most pertinently Lillian Bilocca with the headscarf heroes of Hull, there is a clear and present case for the women of the North to mobilise, on behalf of the 12 million people who live in Yorkshire, Humberside, Northumbria, Cumbria, Cheshire and Lancashire/Greater Manchester, to demand equality of opportunity for their families.

The campaign could be called “Children of the North”.

While the national and regional political establishment, still dominated by men, argues endlessly about the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ chimera alongside the divisive and mired debates about local mayors, a focused campaign by women to challenge the status quo of unfair distribution of resources South and North, galvanising consensus across and outside party lines; marching and putting up candidates at elections as necessary, could produce the required breakthrough.

Who better and more motivated to make this happen and shake up the supine establishment in this country once and for all?
