YP Letters: President Trump is simply acting on his own promises

IN the 2016 election campaign, Donald Trump was clear on what he would do if elected. This seems to have been ignored or disregarded by Hillary Clinton-backing (non-voting) liberals here, assuming she would win.

She lost. President Trump was explicit in saying that he wanted to cut back drastically on migration. He was also explicit on putting America first and slashing migration fits into this. He is certainly not going to let foreign, non-voting liberals change his mind.

IN the UK and US, we are very fortunate to have a fair democratic process which allows all eligible voters a free choice of selection from the available options.

Such voting has recently been completed in both countries with clear outcomes and I am pleased that Theresa May and Donald Trump now have that enormous responsibility of fulfilment rather than their disparaging critics.

I HAVE to admire the regular Friday column by Bill Carmichael (The Yorkshire Post, January 27). He comprehensively covers so many aspects of our current national situation relating to Brexit, and our new friends in America.

What a contrast in benefit to us from the new President Trump, rather than the downcast remarks of thankfully retired former President Obama.

THOSE of us who opposed the previous madness of regime change in countries such as Libya, Iraq and more recently Syria, welcome the recent May/Trump assertion that foreign intervention by our armed forces, as allies, is a thing of the past.

Those families and close loved ones who had to deal with the death and serious injury and members of our forces will feel vindicated that the consequences of these armed conflicts were futile, leading to tragic loss of life.

The ultimate message is clear; neither the UK nor US can usefully intervene militarily in the conflicts of others.
