YP Letters: Scottish voters should ignore clamour for independence

Nicola Sturgeon.

I FIND it almost impossible to believe that the people of Scotland will allow themselves to be led down the path to economic disaster by Nicola Sturgeon in order to gratify her own personal, pathetic aspirations.

She knows full well that Scotland could end up completely on its own, isolated from the UK (where 65 per cent of its production currently goes) and the EU which has clearly stated that an independent Scotland would have to go to the back of the queue. Furthermore, it is quite obvious that any Scottish application for entry would be vetoed by Spain and probably by Belgium and France too.

Yet many of her nationalist colleagues distort history in order to expose their hatred of anything English. Scotland is a beautiful country which has been a major contributor to the UK’s viability over many centuries. I would beg the people of Scotland not to throw all this away in order to satisfy the whims of a woman whose only interests are in her own self-gratification.

IN the 2014 Scottish referendum, over 50 per cent of the population voted to remain with the United Kingdom.

Now Nicola Sturgeon rants
on about the lack of democracy i.e. if she doesn’t get what she wants.

Her idea of democracy?

Hold a referendum and if you don’t get what you want, hold another referendum and another and another until you get what you do want.

AFTER our Brexit referendum, Nicola Sturgeon said that voters didn’t know what they were voting for.

As she now pushes for a new referendum on independence and bearing in mind that Scotland has a population no larger than Yorkshire, perhaps the First Minister could help the voters in Scotland make an informed choice should another vote come to pass. What currency will Scotland adopt? Will there be a border control? What kind of health service will be available and how will it be funded?

From: John Eoin Douglas, Spey Terrace, Edinburgh.

I’M sick of the squabbling as to whether or not Scottish people want another independence referendum. Politicians have vested interests and pollsters are frequently wrong. Let’s settle it once and for all by holding a referendum to see if Scots want another independence referendum.
