YP Letters: Vote means Britain has slammed door on its own future

Why has German chancellor Angela Merkel not resigned over the migration crisis? Why has German chancellor Angela Merkel not resigned over the migration crisis?
Why has German chancellor Angela Merkel not resigned over the migration crisis?

I HAVE lived and worked in Germany since 1978. My daughter and I both have German and British citizenship. I am proud of this fact, I am also proud to be a European. That was until last Thursday.

Brexit has broken not only Europe, but the fabric of Great Britain. Europe will recover and I hope will be stronger in spite of the crisis it’s going through. But alas Britain has closed the future to coming generations.

My belief is that the country of my birth will go through hard times: investors will pull out and high unemployment will follow. And politically you’re out.

Germany is now number one and I think they will keep and hold Europe together for the better.

From: Dick Lindley, Altofts, Normanton.

EU rulers now have to consider that having seen our referendum results, the whole of northern Europe are now likely to leave the EU, which for me would be a perfect scenario, for we could then continue trading with our Scandinavian friends without the bully boys from Brussels sticking their snouts into our affairs.

The end of the EU and their dream of a United States of Europe is crumbling, and for that I am truly grateful.

MARTIN Schulz, President of the European Parliament, is reported as saying, in the light of the referendum vote to leave the EU, “there would be consequences for Britain which is now on a dangerous path”.

Oh really Herr Schulz? So why is it that so many other countries in the EU have sent congratulations and now want to hold a referendum? And what an attitude to have to the democratic process. It speaks volumes. European politicians have feathered their own nests for far too long.

Finally, if Scotland does ultimately leave the UK, I hope it adopts the euro as its currency. You know who will have the last laugh then. Nicola Sturgeon should take note of what has happened to David Cameron – a poisoned chalice springs to mind.

From: John Riseley, Harrogate.

I FELT sad seeing us leave the EU and David Cameron resign. Those who believe that Brexit will damage the EU might consider it more appropriate if instead it were Angela Merkel resigning over her invitation to refugees and her intransigence over free movement.
