Post-op runner set for marathon

ONLY months after undergoing surgery, Leeds man Christian Stead is preparing to run a marathon.

Mr Stead, 25, from Pudsey, is to tackle the Edinburgh Marathon to raise funds for the Stroke Association.

He began training in the same month he underwent major surgery twice for an appendix disorder. He said: “The scars from my operations had just healed when I began training. I knew I’d have to push myself very hard to make it through.”

“When my stepdad Ray suffered a stroke, the help of the association was crucial for his recovery.

“I wanted to give something back so that more families can benefit from their incredible work.

“I’ve never done a marathon before and wanted to take on a big challenge that was worthy of sponsorship.”

He hopes to raise £500 for the Stroke Association.

He is currently running 60 miles a week and his stepfather has pledged extra cash if he finishes the marathon in under three hours.
