YORKSHIRE POST cricket correspondent Chris Waters has gained one of sports writing’s most prestigious accolades.
Waters has won The Wisden Book of the Year for 2012 for his biography of former Yorkshire and England fast bowler Fred Trueman. Fred Trueman: The Authorised Biography, published by Aurum Press, was released last October to glowing reviews.
The Mail on Sunday’s Leo McKinstry described it as “one of the finest sports books of recent years”, while esteemed cricket author David Foot called it a “brilliant and unsparing portrait”.
The winner was chosen by the almanack’s guest reviewer, Harry Pearson, the columnist and author.
The book, Waters’s first. has also been short-listed for the Cricket Society and MCC Book of the Year Award.
